If there are two identical words, except that one of the words have special characters. Then the word with special characters will only be suggested if it is common, in comparison to the other word. This means that words with special characters, that are not very common, will not be suggested.

Swedish keyboard dictionary no longer yields suggestions when you write “tack” and “att”. And the danish dictionary will not yield a suggestion when writing “det” or “bare”. This is only a few examples.

Note, that words that have special characters and that are used often, will still be suggested. Like the swedish word “här” will still be suggested when writing “har”.

And remember – if you don’t like a suggestion, just touch it – and it will go away. Over time, iPhone will learn what words you use and dont use.

The norwegian and danish dictionaries have a issue with the letter “Æ” which is not yet solved. I’ve added the bug to the list of known issues on each language.

Thanks to your comments I’ve improved all keyboard dictionaries and have now sent out an update. When you refresh your sources in Installer.app you will get the notification. All you need to do is to click the “update” button.

Today I’ve added a new language, polish. The polish dictionary contains a lot of words (!). I had to remove some of them, otherwise the dictionary would become too slow. I think I’ve been sucessfull removing words that are not that common. Please let me know what you think.

Last, but not least I thought it would be interesting to find out how many installs I had yesterday. This is the result. Mouse over if you want to see the exact number of installs:

This dictionary contains 121 298 finnish words, and every word has a relevance. If there are several similar words, iPhone will suggest the word with the highest relevance.

When you’re typing, iPhone will learn new words automatically.

If/when you get a suggestion that you don’t want to use, you should touch the word. Everytime you use, or don’t use a word, iPhone will remember it and make the relevance of that word higher or lower.

Apple will eventually release a finnish keyboard dictionary. But until then, feel free to install and use this dictionary. The dictionary is free and we don’t accept any donations. The dictionary is funded by ads on this site.
